Are both DC locations independent and family-owned?
Yes. Both DC locations are owned and operated by the Voorthuis family. Foxhall Square has been our headquarters since 1973, and Connecticut Avenue has operated on the same block just as long.
Does Voorthuis accept vision insurance in DC?
No. We do not bill vision insurance at either DC location. That choice is what lets our optometrists spend a full 45 minutes per exam, three times the doctor face-time of a chain. We accept FSA and HSA, and provide itemized invoices for out-of-network reimbursement.
Can I get an eye exam during my DC lunch break?
Yes, most often at Connecticut Avenue. The 45-minute exam plus check-in and frame browsing fits inside a 75-minute lunch window for K Street and Farragut Square professionals. Foxhall Square is better for residents in NW DC who prefer a quieter neighborhood location.
Are records shared between the DC locations?
Yes. Your records and prescriptions follow you between Foxhall Square, Connecticut Avenue, and our other six locations. See Dr. Voorthuis at Foxhall Square for an exam, then pick up frames at Connecticut Avenue if it is closer to your workplace.
What designer eyewear brands do the DC locations carry?
Both DC locations carry 30+ designer brands. Foxhall Square (our HQ) stocks the deepest collection including Lindberg, Tom Ford, Oliver Peoples, Mykita, Cartier, Alain Mikli, Masunaga, and is the exclusive DC-area provider of Zero G titanium frames. Connecticut Avenue specializes in Tom Ford, Oliver Peoples, Lindberg, Garrett Leight, Barton Perreira, and Jacques Marie Mage.
How do I get to the DC locations via Metro?
Connecticut Avenue is three blocks from Farragut North on the Red Line. Foxhall Square is about a mile south of Tenleytown-AU on the Red Line, with Metrobus routes N2 and N6 stopping at the door.
