Privacy Policy

This site is the front door to Voorthuis Opticians, a way to learn about our practice, our neighborhood stores, and the eyewear we carry. It is not where appointments happen, payments are taken, or personal information is collected. Eye care happens in the chair, with someone who can see you. This page explains the very little we collect while you read along, and what we do with it.

What we collect when you visit

We do not run forms, newsletters, accounts, or contact pages that capture your name, email, or phone number. The only information that reaches us is the standard kind any website receives:

• Server logs. Our hosting provider records your IP address, browser type, the pages you view, the page that referred you, and a timestamp. This is automatic and standard for every site on the internet.
• Analytics cookies. We use Google Analytics 4 to count visitors and see which pages people find useful. Details in the next section.
• The "Find nearest location" feature. If you tap Use my location in our call menu, your browser asks your permission to share approximate location. That location is used inside your browser only, to sort our stores by distance. It is not transmitted to us and not stored.
• Location preference. When you sort our stores by distance (by ZIP or by your browser location), the result is saved in your browser's own localStorage so the order is still there on your next visit. It holds the sorted list of stores, the distances, and a short label for what you searched (like ZIP 20007 or your location). It does not hold your exact coordinates. It stays until you clear your browser data, and it never reaches us. To remove it sooner, clear site data for voorthuis.com in your browser settings.

Cookies

We use one set of cookies: Google Analytics 4 (cookies named _ga and_ga_*). These count visitors, measure how people arrive (search, direct, referral), and tell us which pages are read. We use them only to understand and improve the site. We do not use them to run advertising or remarketing of our own.

You can block cookies in your browser settings, install the Google Analytics opt-out browser add-on, or send a Global Privacy Control (GPC) signal from a supporting browser. We honor GPC as an opt-out request.

What we do not do

• We do not sell personal information.
• We do not run our own advertising, remarketing, or retargeting campaigns from this site.
• We do not collect health information through this website.

Who else sees this data

Two service providers help us run the site and see standard, limited information in the course of doing so:

• Cloudflare hosts and delivers the site. It sees server-log information like IP address and the pages requested.
• Google Analytics processes the analytics described above on our behalf.

We may also disclose information if a court or law-enforcement agency lawfully requires it.

Your choices and rights

Depending on where you live (including California, Virginia, Maryland, Colorado, Connecticut, Texas, Oregon, and a growing list of other states with comprehensive privacy laws), you may have the right to know what personal information we hold about you, to access or correct it, to ask us to delete it, and to opt out of any "sale" or "sharing" for targeted advertising. As noted above, we do not sell personal information and we do not run targeted advertising of our own. We honor the Global Privacy Control as an opt-out signal.

Children

This site is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect information from them. If you believe a child has provided information through this site, please contact us and we will delete it.

Patient records are separate

This policy covers the website only. Any health information you share with us in person (at an exam, fitting, or pickup) is protected under HIPAA and a separate Notice of Privacy Practices that we will give you in the store. Please ask the front desk if you would like a copy.

Changes to this policy

When we change this policy, we will update the "Last updated" date at the top. Material changes will be noted at the top of the page for at least 30 days.
