Maui Jim at Voorthuis.

Polarized first, PolarizedPlus2 lens technology · Since 1980, Hawaii

Maui Jim is what you wear when the sun is the priority. The brand started on a Hawaiian beach in 1980 and built its reputation on lens engineering rather than fashion alone. It built a 9-layer polarized lens that knocks down glare, lifts color, and blocks 100% of UV. As a preferred Maui Jim carrier, we fit them with your prescription for driving, water, and DC summers.

What you get with Maui Jim.

A row of Maui Jim polarized sunglasses in varied frame styles and lens tints in a display case
i.

PolarizedPlus2 lens

A nine-layer lens that polarizes glare, blocks UV, and selectively enhances reds, greens, and blues. The visual difference between a Maui Jim lens and a standard polarized lens is striking the first time you put them on.

ii.

Color-true tints

Neutral Gray (the most balanced), HCL Bronze (warmer and contrast-forward, our most popular for DC sun), and Maui Rose (high-contrast, ideal for driving). All three are available in prescription.

iii.

Frame materials matched to use

Acetate for fashion-forward, MauiPure (proprietary nylon-blend) for lightweight wraparound, titanium for rimless. Each material is chosen for the way it pairs with the lens.

iv.

100% UV protection, always

Every Maui Jim is built with full UVA, UVB, and HEV protection, with no upcharge and no upgrade tier. Eye health is the foundation of the brand.

A closer look

Why we carry Maui Jim.

What stands out, what to expect, and how a Maui Jim frame ages over time.

Models worth trying on

Peahi (lightweight wraparound, water and trail), Cliff House (acetate aviator with island warmth), Cathedrals (square city sunglass), and Punchbowl (medium-large rectangle, the workhorse). We stock the most-asked-for models across our stores. Call ahead for a specific frame.

Why Maui Jim with your prescription

A surprising number of patients wear Maui Jim with non-prescription lenses out of habit, then squint through whatever they’re trying to read. We add your prescription with the same PolarizedPlus2 lens (single vision, progressive, or computer) so the polarization advantage carries across all distances. See our prescription sunglasses options for the full picture. The fitting is measured by hand at the bench like any other frame.

A note on fit

Wraparound styles need a different bridge measurement than flat-front frames. We’ll measure your face for the right model. Peahi sits closer to the cheekbones than Cathedrals does, and the difference matters across an afternoon.

Authorized dealer. Voorthuis is an authorized Maui Jim retailer. Every frame arrives from the brand's authorized channel with the original case and documentation. Lens-color guide

Which PolarizedPlus2 tint to try.

Every Maui Jim tint polarizes glare and blocks 100% of UV. The difference is the light it is tuned for and how much it lifts contrast. We compare them side by side at the bench.

Who it fits

Maui Jim may be right for you if…

i.

You spend serious time outdoors (beach, golf, boat, hike, or just DC humidity from May through September).

ii.

You drive into east-facing sun morning or west-facing sun evening, and want a polarized lens that makes the road readable.

iii.

You want sun-first eyewear with your prescription, not a lifestyle frame with a tint added on.

Not sure yet? Bring your prescription (or get one with us) and we'll lay Maui Jim side-by-side with the alternatives.
Our process

How we fit you.

No upsell, no rush. Try them on, fitted in person.

  1. 01

    Measurement first

Bridge width, pupillary distance (PD), and temple length at the bench. These numbers eliminate frames that won't sit correctly on your face.

  2. 02

    Lifestyle and use

A few questions before we pull any frames: mostly screen work or outdoors? Single pair or adding a sun option? Drive at night? The answers shape lens selection before you've touched a frame.

  3. 03

    Frame trial and comparison

We pull three to five candidates. You try them in sequence - we give honest opinions on what's working. The two or three that survive go side by side until one is clear.

  4. 04

    Lens selection and precision adjustment

Lens material, AR coating, tints if relevant. The frame gets adjusted to your face before you leave - bridge, temples, nose pads. That last step is why glasses from us don't slide.

How much do Maui Jim sunglasses cost?
Maui Jim sunglasses typically range from $250 to $500. Prescription Maui Jim lenses are priced separately based on your prescription strength, lens design (single vision, progressive, or computer), and any specialty add-ons.
Why are Maui Jim sunglasses so expensive?
The cost is in the lens. PolarizedPlus2 is a nine-layer lens that polarizes glare, blocks 100% of UV, and lifts color rather than just dimming the view. Fitted to your prescription and adjusted at our bench, it is eyewear that protects your eyes and sharpens what you see.
Is Voorthuis an authorized Maui Jim dealer?
Yes. Voorthuis is an authorized Maui Jim retailer. Every pair ships from the brand's authorized US channel with the original Maui Jim case, cloth, and PolarizedPlus2 documentation.
What is PolarizedPlus2?
PolarizedPlus2 is Maui Jim’s nine-layer lens. It polarizes glare, blocks all UV, and selectively enhances reds, greens, and blues. The visible difference between a Maui Jim lens and a standard polarized lens is striking the first time you put them on.
Can I get prescription lenses in Maui Jim?
Yes. We fit Maui Jim with single-vision, progressive, or computer prescriptions using the same PolarizedPlus2 lens. The fitting is measured by hand at the bench, including the corrected curvature for wraparound models.
Which Maui Jim tint is right for me?
Neutral Gray is the most balanced and the most popular for general use. HCL Bronze adds warmth and contrast, our top pick for DC summer sun. Maui Rose is the highest-contrast option, ideal for driving. We compare tints side by side during the fitting.
Does Voorthuis accept vision insurance for Maui Jim?
