From our patients
I go here for my glasses and won’t go anywhere else. My prescription lenses always come back accurate, and the staff is friendly and knowledgeable when picking out frames. Perhaps more expensive than other stores, but well worth the value.

Our approach in Bethesda

Top optometrists, and frames to match.

Proven processes and procedures for discerning Bethesda residents.

i.

The cases other offices pass on

Keratoconus, post-surgical corneas, large prism corrections, and contact-lens fits that kept failing elsewhere. Our Doctors of Optometry take the prescriptions others call too complicated, working in fractions of a diopter until your vision settles.

ii.

No insurance middlemen

We do not bill vision plans, so your doctor chooses every test on your eye health alone and you can try any frame in the case. FSA and HSA welcome, with itemized invoices for out-of-network reimbursement.

iii.

A collection, not a wall of stock

Bethesda has a sharper eye for design than most, and the collection is built for it - Tom Ford, Oliver Peoples, Lindberg, Mykita, Maui Jim. 30+ designer brands and hundreds of frames, chosen the way we choose our own.

iv.

Adjustments and repairs, anytime

Walk in to any Bethesda office for a cleaning, a screw, or new nose pads. We handle it free for as long as you wear the frames. Easy parking at every door.

Common Bethesda questions

Bethesda eye care, plainly answered.

How long is an eye exam at any Bethesda Voorthuis location?
Every comprehensive eye exam across all four Bethesda locations is a full 45 minutes, roughly three times the doctor face-time of a chain optical visit. We use the extra time for thorough screening, refraction, eye-pressure checks, and unhurried conversation about your visual needs.
Does Voorthuis accept vision insurance in Maryland?
Vision plans dictate exam length and which tests our doctors can perform. Operating outside that model lets us spend a full 45 minutes per exam and make every clinical decision based on your eye health, not on insurance codes. We accept FSA and HSA, and provide itemized invoices for out-of-network reimbursement.
How close are the Bethesda locations to NIH and Walter Reed?
Our Wildwood location is about ten minutes from both the NIH campus and Walter Reed National Military Medical Center. Bradley Shopping Center and Montgomery Mall are also short drives. Many federal employees and physicians schedule lunch-hour or after-work appointments.
Do all four Bethesda locations carry the same designer brands?
The curated collection (30+ designer brands including Tom Ford, Oliver Peoples, Maui Jim, Lindberg, Mykita, Lafont Paris, and independent European houses) is shared across all locations. Specific frame inventory rotates by location, and we transfer between locations on request.
Can I move records and prescriptions between the Bethesda locations?
Yes. Your records carry across all four Bethesda locations and our other four locations. See Dr. Le at Wildwood for an exam, then pick up your frames at Westbard Square if it is closer to your day. Same prescription, same staff network.
